If someone had told me years ago that I would one day own an in-person homeschool program, I probably wouldn't have believed them.
Back then, I was simply doing what I loved—teaching.
Every morning before school, I would stop at a local gas station to grab breakfast. Over time, I got to know the owner, and one day he asked me a simple question after learning I was a teacher.
"Would you tutor my children?"
At the time, I thought it was just another conversation.
Looking back, I realize it was the very first step toward what Joy's Educational Services would eventually become.

Sometimes God plants seeds long before we understand His plan.
Like educators everywhere, 2020 changed everything.
Suddenly I was teaching multiple virtual classes with little direction while trying to support my own family through an uncertain time.
While many people struggled with online learning, I discovered something unexpected.
I loved it.
Virtual instruction allowed me to personalize lessons, connect with students in new ways, and reach families I never could have served inside a traditional classroom.
That same year, I officially launched Joy's Educational Services as a virtual math tutoring business.
As my parents' health declined, I returned home to help care for them. Thankfully, virtual tutoring gave me the flexibility to continue serving students while being present for my family.
I believed virtual tutoring was the destination.
God knew it was simply preparation.
In the spring of 2025, I was sitting beside the track watching my son's meet when another parent began sharing her frustrations.
She worked full-time from home as a nurse.
She had chosen homeschooling because traditional school wasn't working for her son, but balancing work and teaching every day felt impossible.
As she talked, I found myself thinking...
"I can help."
Without really planning it, I asked:
"What would you think about him coming to do his schoolwork with me?"
The words surprised both of us.
But in that moment, something clicked.
Years earlier, a coworker had encouraged me to create a learning environment for students who simply didn't thrive inside traditional classrooms.
At the time, I couldn't picture it.
Standing beside that track, I finally could.

That young man became my very first in-person homeschool student.
He wasn't struggling because he lacked intelligence.
He simply needed a different environment.
Without constant distractions and pressure, his confidence began to grow.
He asked questions.
He challenged himself.
He began believing in his own abilities again.
By the following school year, we confidently enrolled him in Advanced 8th Grade coursework.
Watching that transformation reminded me of something I'd witnessed throughout my entire teaching career:

Not long afterward, another family reached out.
Their child wasn't failing.
He simply wasn't learning in a classroom with more than twenty students.
That's when I began researching Florida homeschool requirements and the Step Up For Students Scholarship program.
The more I researched...
The more I realized...
I already had everything I needed.
The experience.
The classroom.
The passion.
Most importantly...
The heart to serve children who needed something different.
Joy's Educational Services was no longer just a tutoring company.
It was becoming a personalized education program.
Parents often ask why I intentionally limit enrollment.
The answer is simple.
With a maximum of five students, I'm able to:
Personalize instruction every day.
Adjust lessons based on each student's progress.
Fill learning gaps before they grow.
Challenge advanced learners.
Build meaningful relationships.
Communicate regularly with families.
Education isn't about teaching everyone the same lesson.
It's about helping every child reach their own potential.
People often assume I teach math.
The truth is...
I teach confidence.

I've watched students who believed they were "bad at school" become students who volunteer answers, tackle difficult concepts, and begin believing in themselves again.
Confidence changes everything.
Once students realize they are capable...
Academic success follows.
Every student has their own journey, and I'm incredibly proud of the progress we've already seen.
Some recent successes include:
⭐ A student completing an entire year of Advanced 6th Grade Math during the summer, earning the opportunity to move directly into Advanced 7th Grade Math.
⭐ Students rebuilding foundational skills before successfully transitioning into advanced coursework.
⭐ Children rediscovering a love for learning after struggling in traditional classrooms.

Those moments remind me that personalized education truly changes lives.
Families choose Joy's Educational Services because they want more than tutoring.
They want a trusted educational partner.
